this book was the most accurate representation of how day-to-day life in high school felt. having a crush on someone i'd never met in person, navigating homophobia in a small town that doesn't care about you but it also doesn't necessarily affect you... reading this felt like traveling back to the person i was in high school but with more fondness than i felt the first time around. it felt like a very particular slice of nostalgia for me, personally.
i watched the movie first and was so mad aboutsimon's friends all being pissed that he didn't tell them, so i'm glad that the book was at least slightly different.

What can I say? This book is utterly delightful and charming. Brought back so many memories of the pain and joy of coming out, high school, first loves, and discovering oneself. It is also so endearingly winsome that it melted my cold, dead, heart. My only real compliant is that it didn't exist when I was a young teen.
4.5 stars
A cutesy ya romance which happens to be just the right amount of cheesy and smart at the same time .
It's really nice to find a light , fluffy book once in a while , which turn your expectations upside down and have a lasting impression on you . Being a high school student myself , I'd have to say Simon... is the most relatable and true novel about high school life . Unlike John Green novels Simon... doesn't need to force us on an emotional rollercoaster ride . We , the readers have to decide it for ourselves .
This novel is about Simon Spier , a high schooler , who is a closeted gay . He is being blackmailed by a fellow student (a.k.a Monkey's Asshole) - who read his emails which revealed Simon's sexuality - so that Simon could set him up with his good friend Abby . Then , we follow the next couple of months or more , in Simon's life , as he unwillingly cooperates with Martin and tries to protect his and Blue's secret .
There are so many great things about Simon . First of all , there is Simon himself . A cute , cinnamon role of a character . He is humorous , smart . Another great thing - Very supportive family and friends . Then there is Blue . Who is just so lovable !
Simon.... is a really fun , and entertaining novel , with memorable characters and surprisingly good theme .

Being secure in your masculinity isn't same as being straight .

Such a good book and an essential for any LGBT person to read. I usually don’t read books very fast but every spare moment I had, I was reading this book.

This was really well written, enjoyed it so much. Simon was a lovely character, and it ended perfectly.
Graphic: Cursing, Homophobia
Full review can be read at Katie's Books and Reviews.
My reaction to this book:

“He talked about the ocean between people. And how the whole point of everything is to find a shore worth swimming to.”
Awe. What a cute read. Loved it. So sweet.
I think what really sets this book apart is that Simon is such a relatable, easy to love character. He stays true to himself and goes after what he wants. He loving, caring, a great friend and a good amount of naive. You just feel for him on his journey. Sometimes you read books where you really can't stand the main character... where you're frustrated and yelling at them inside your head. This was not one of those books and in the end I think that was the best thing about it.
“My dad invented the concept of Simon logic, and I can’t seem to outgrow it. It means wishful thinking supported by flimsy evidence.”
Side note: I read this after seeing the movie and still found it very enjoyable. Would recommend even if you already know who blue is. The movie is also pretty true to the story so all around thumbs up!

Yet another book this week that I was so interested in that I finished it within a day. While I did not know a lot about this book, or the author I was surprised by both. This was the April book selection for an online book club I have recently joined.
I will say that this book is defiantly not for elementary kiddos like the others I have read and reviewed recently. This book is a YA Novel through and through.
*Spoilers ahead*
I LOVED reading about Simon as he navigated his way through his junior year in high school. There were the typical ups and downs of every typical high school student a long with some extra bits that have become more relevant in today's society.
Though through a majority of the book I was 98% convinced that his best friend was going to end up being "Blue", I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't!
While there were a few parts that could have been left out (Why did Abby have to get mad at Simon after Martin told her what he did? ) in my option. I still give this book a solid give stars!
