ugh, this would’ve been a five star read for me if the book wasn’t so damn LONG! i feel like there was so much unnecessary information the author put in that could’ve easily been cut out. that aside, i loved the romance between dani and lachlan! that forbidden love trope is definitely present and the author delivered on it. i also really enjoyed all the side characters because they were well developed and served a purpose. highly recommend if you don’t mind long books.

This book was too long. Could have been 4 stars had it only been 300 pages long… characters were great and I enjoyed the story but I skimmed most of it. I don’t need to read about them ordering take out 100 times.
I’m a huge fan of age gap romances and Micaela Smeltzer after reading the confidence of wildflower trilogy. However I was expecting more from this book. It had the potential to be good but it fell off quickly. It felt boring at times and there was way too much extra detail. I did not need to know exactly what shampoo and body scrub the girl used. There was so much unnecessary minor detail and the major plot points were just glazed over. The book finally got interested after Lachlan disappeared, I felt like they finally had an actual connection. I love a taboo morally wrong romance as much as the next girl but this book failed to create the sense of “what if we get caught” feeling.
Micalea, my girl, this needed to be a duel POV. Because, yeah, obviously the 18 year old girl is going to fall in love with her 29 year old, hot, muscular guidance counselor, but without a duel POV we don’t understand why HE fell in love with her. We get her inner monologue about how she is attracted to him and all the sudden they’re kissing and doing stuff and he’s just like “yeah I like you too” ???? I would sure like to know why, sir. Honestly it just makes this a little more creepy.
And for the record relationships like this are creepy but this is a work of ✨fiction✨

I though I was gonna love it but after 50% it was shit a skimmed through 30% of the book and I don’t feel bad or guilty. I found everything Mr.Taylor said cringey.
So glad this is over….
I like teacher -student romance books. In fact I wrote one myself. However, I feel like they need to be in certain way so that way they are written in a way that could be considered abusive. Which I felt like this one was. There was definite grooming involved. Would there even be relationship if he didn’t exchange numbers with her? If he didn’t tell her to come to his place? He treated her like a crap and left her with the fallout and Dani just excepted it. The whole I can’t cook thing got super juvenile and old. I really wanted Ansel to win - I also felt like he didn’t get a proper ended. Same with Sage and Sasha - do they break up again or tie the knot? Why was this a 600 page book? It was all too much for me.

Well, this one went back and forth for me, but ultimately I think it's definitely a 4.5 star story. Broken high school senior (who survived a school shooting where she lost her mother) now lives with her brother, as her only immediate family left. She spent months in the hospital recovering from her own gunshot wound, and is not starting a new school for her senior year.
She is assigned to spend 1 class period each day with the guidance counselor... and then...
It goes up and down with them, and the supporting cast of the book is awesome too. Her friends, her brother, I want to read about all of them in their own stories!!
