This took me forever to read because I just stopped reading in the middle of it. Finally getting my reading mojo back!

I related to some parts of the story and found certain parts a little tedious. There were also certain triggers for me that made it difficult to read. Weike Wang, however, does a fantastic job of relaying and questioning the immigrant experience, especially one of Chinese immigrants.

I really enjoyed this book. Story of Chinese immigrant family, told only in voice of daughter who becomes doctor. Read almost as if she has autism. Insights on family, belonging, country, and home. End of book runs into early days of the pandemic.

Thank you Goodreads and Random House for this giveaway win!
This was a quick read, but I definitely enjoyed. I loved Joan; this strong Chinese-American working in medicine as a woman in a male dominated workplace, and staying strong to her beliefs when her family did not like her choices. Takes place during the start of COVID and the challenges she has at work and with her family. Powerful and at times humorous!

Must stop reading literary fiction. Not a bad story or anything, I just find lit fic boring and it took me forever to read so it was very disconnected
