100% cried at the end. I loved this story so much. Joan is unlike any protagonist I’ve ever read, which felt so fresh and exciting. I was immediately in love with her narrative voice, because I love the quiet and understated. Yes plzz. I didn’t think I’d like the incorporation of the pandemic, but it totally worked here. Her exploration and takes on being the child of immigrants felt a lot different from a lot of standard and played out narratives, which was super cool and informative to read. I loved and cried at the expressions of love that passed between her and her complicated family, because really whose isn’t? My absolute favorite part? Joan’s love of La Croix.

3.75 ⭐️. I was enjoying this book a lot more before it became about COVID. Then I was just stressed. I liked the simpleness of the writing style and look into Joan’s life. It was unexpectedly funny in places.
