4.5* Really enjoyed it. Took me a bit to get into but then I was invested! Learned more about Chinese culture and liked hearing Joan’s Asian American perspective.

Very moving and thought provoking but with some humor too.

3.5 stars. A bit outside of my wheelhouse. Interesting to learn about Chinese culture and third culture kids. Tackled topics such as belonging, family, familial love.

a lighthearted and quick read about a doctor, less constrained by the single family and i loved that this character traveled across locations. wang seems to write ambiguous stories with stereotypical yet complex (stereotypically complex?) characters you love and yet resent

felt too much like a covid time capsule.

Not great not terrible. Well written and sometimes touching but the plot was pretty weak.

Slice-of-life for a child of immigrants and ICU attending at the beginning of covid-19.
Well written but not a lot to keep me interested beyond the main character herself.
