This is a totally trippy, bizarre little novel. Can’t say I would recommend it, unless you are interested in reading what might have happened if Homer had been doing psychedelic mushrooms while writing the Odyssey. It’s like post apocalyptic fiction met the Matrix and decided to go on an acid trip. Time warps, alternate universes, talking crabs, cannibalism, murder, undead creatures… and they lived, um, happily ever after? Don’t know how this made my TBR list, but it’s skippable. It gets two stars because it was bizarre enough that curiosity kept me reading and I didn’t DNF it.

Really well done story liken to [a:Douglas Adams|4|Douglas Adams|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1616277702p2/4.jpg] or [a:Jason Pargin|16596547|Jason Pargin|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1629976025p2/16596547.jpg]

Chaos plot with a very satisfying end.

Now this is the book I needed at this point in my life right now. The many uncertainties, trials, and tribulations that the world can throw at you are numerous in strength and number. So what are you supposed to do about it? Well, I believe The Hike teaches us one way we can deal with all of that mess. We take our hits as they come, but we NEVER EVER let them stop us from where we want to go no matter what.

The way I inserted myself into our MC, Ben’s (hey that’s me too!) shoes was almost instant as his journey into the unknown grew around him. While the book for some might come off as just too fast paced and juvenile at points, to me it was anything but. It showed me that there is a way to plow through what that unseen all knowing being might deal you and come out on the other side changed and matured.

Thank you Ben. Thank you Drew Magary.

Eh. This was weird for the sake of being weird. It felt a lot like the randomness of Alice in Wonderland, but a lot less meaningful. I stopped caring about what happened pretty early only and wasn't especially interested with all of the developments in the insanity that is Ben's time on The Path.
It's really a shame, because this seems like a book that I'd like, but I really didn't care for it.
