[I was a Naruto fan back when it first started releasing in English in 2003, buying the volumes up immediately as they released. I fell off the series around volume 50-ish, so now I'm looking to reread and finish it gradually as it is available through my library.]
This first volume isn't that great. It does an ok job of setting up the world, and does a good job of getting the reader used to Naruto and his antics, but there's not really anything memorable that happens (besides someone trying to kill Naruto, I guess). It's interesting how quickly Naruto learns Kage Bushin when he has such trouble with everything else later on. I guess the mangaka needed an early deus ex machina move for him.

ARC Copy...to be honest this is the first I read a volume from start to finish in full...and I can see why its so popular and nice world building on the ninjitsu mechanics and actual world itself.
What, am I supposed to give this less than five stars? It’s volume one of Naruto, for Christ’s sake: it’s got me for life. I’ll support this wretched little man until the day I die.
