Untethered by Angela Jackson-Brown is a stunning, emotional read that hits straight to the heart. Set in 1967 Alabama, it beautifully weaves together themes of love, loss, family, and self-discovery through the eyes of Katia Daniels, a woman who gives so much of herself to others, often at the expense of her own needs. Her quiet strength and deep compassion, especially for the boys at the group home, make her one of the most memorable characters I’ve read in a long time. The romance adds a lovely layer of hope, but what really shines is Katia’s journey toward allowing herself softness, vulnerability, and joy. This story is tender, powerful, and beautifully written and I truly enjoyed everything about it. This was my first book by Angela Jackson-Brown but it definitely will not be my last, she seems to be incredible at writing historical fiction. No notes.

I didn't realize how Christian and prayer-focused this would be. That, combined with the telling instead of showing narration, meant it's just not the book for me.

I wanted to hug EVERY single character (okay, except for 2). Oh my soul.

I didn’t realize this would focus so much on prayer, but I kept reading because the main character’s mission to help young Black men was admirable.
