I don’t know if should even be rating this one, but just remember that this review is just words of someone in a weird book slump. I’m just feeling meh about reading in general right now. I was very excited by the premise and felt the start was promising with the whole gritty dystopian monster land vibe. But soon I started feeling like a lot was happening in the story but it still wasn’t moving along fast enough? Like I kept getting bored and my attention wandering. I repeat, this could really just be my weird mood.

Danny was fulfilling the role of the typical dumb girl, not listening to reason and jumping into situations only to make them worse. But I guess I was just happy it was a guy being the idiot this time. Which is fitting tbh. Wyn is sweet and had some swoony moments, but the romance itself felt flat and didn’t leave me with tingles. Idk the whole thing felt like I could appreciate the writing and story is decent but I was emotionally removed from the action. Like we see these two and their journey to love but it never gets beneath the surface and I never felt like I knew them. Because I’m all for smutty monster romance with no plot, but this wasn’t it and if there’s gonna be plot, I’d like to be invested in it.

Even the climax which was pretty gory and should’ve been exciting felt dragged because there were like two climactic conflicts and the actual ending just felt anticlimactic. The story is sweet but sometimes painfully so, and I have a feeling I would’ve enjoyed it way more on a different day.

this is the first monster romance i’ve ever read and set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world infested with parasites & otherworldly creatures, danny and wyn were the brightest beings to exist. i love them to death and am so proud to have read about danny being the brave soul that he’s always been, and to see wyn finding someone who made him feel like he didn’t have to hide any longer, because he’s seen by the one person who saw the monster that he is and loved him even more for it

OK, I have found my new obsession and boy is it a hot one. This is everything I never knew I needed in my life - M/M monster dystopian romance!

I was surprised to see this was the author's first novel because it's such a strong debut! Sure it's a little rough around the edges, but the setting and character's she's created here are a great foundation. And it was such a rollercoaster! I felt joy, pain, fear, anxiety, heartbreak....but ultimately it's just such a sweet romance.

The two leads, Danny (the lovable, kinda dumb human) and Wyn (the Soul Eater) have such lovely interactions. It's told entirely from Danny's POV, though I kinda wish there were some POVs written from Wyn's perspective because he is very much the strong, silent type. But watching him slowly start to relax around Danny was amazing and their sexy times...holy hotness. I haven't been exposed to much in the ways of alternate anatomy, but boy did I enjoy this and all the variations they got up to!

Really looking forward to see where the series goes!

I read this book within 24hrs. Two weeks ago.
AND I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT!

It's cute, angsty, funny, really hot and just very unique in many ways! (p.97 tho

But I felt the plot lacking and it was fun more for the smut and the character development. You had this amazing post-apocalyptic plot that was almost forgotten, it's more of the two traveling through the 'wastelands' vibes and adding monster fucking. The smut was good tho! I didn't rate it higher because it was just more of them screwing frequently, I would consider upping the spice cuz Wyn's Anatomy big plus
wyn has both a penis-like appendage and a slit that's used<s/poiler>, I love the switching and I enjoyed Danny x Wyn.

This was terrific. I never knew I needed monster romances before starting this but oh wow, now I can't get enough.
Apocalyptic deliciousness with a side dish of romance that is, surprisingly, so sweet and lovely it will rot your teeth (in the best way possible).
I loved it from the very start: "Soul Eater" is addicting, original and action-packed. Its world-building is fantastic and mysterious, but also quite simple, and it doesn't leave you feeling overwhelmed, so that's always a bonus. I haven't read an apocalyptic/dyspotian novel in quite a long time: the end of the world isn't my favourite genre, especially nowadays, but Lily Mayne manages to depict her monster-ridden and military-ruled world in a way that doesn't feel daunting. And the main reason, I think, is the romance.
Danny and Wyn were, simply, adorable. Wyn was my absolute favourite: he's tough and nearly indestructible, scary with his demon-like voice and appearance, but also so damn sexy? And so insecure and afraid and protective you'll literally want to hide him away from a world that keeps trying to kill him. And Danny was so strong and open-minded, always ready to understand and forgive: he's also very aware of what he wants and that was so refreshing to see. He embraced his attraction to Wyn without too much drama or overthinking it and I loved that, and you know, I kind of get it. I never knew I needed monster f***ing but OH WELL, I'll just have to update my TBR now.
This novel made me cry and sigh and also laugh out loud and cackle like a maniac. It's the sweetest and softest apocalypse novel I've ever read and it has one of the swooniest love stories. I cann0t wait to start Edin's story.
