At the beginning you think that this is going to be another WWII historical fiction novel, but you would be wrong. This is a sweeping novel spanning decades and it is so much more than just another WWII novel.
Beatrix is sent to America from London during the war to keep her safe. Many families sent their children away from the cities especially when the Blitz was happening. Most families sent their children to the country, but some sent their kids to families in America. This was what Beatrix parents, Millie and Reg did.
Beatrix was sent to live with the Gregory's, Ethan, Nancy and their two sons William and Gerald. Immediately they take Beatrix in and make her part of their family. She goes to school, starts to make friends and William and Gerald become her brothers. She spends summers with them in Maine and after awhile she feels like she has always belonged to them.
There is so much to love about this book.... From the short chapters that keep the story moving, to the wonderful character development. So much to love about this book and I am thrilled that I got to read it! 4.5⭐
