i’m so mad rn. amazing book, maybe one of my favorites that i’ve read for school, but why tf did gretchen have to die?? she’s just a girl smh. so what if she poisoned her mother and killed her child… the devil made her do it. the relationship between faust and mephisto (also plug listen to mephisto’s waltz rn. it takes on a whole different meaning) reminds me a lot of the relationship between anselmo and lothario in don quixote. why does everyone have to be tested? why can’t we just trust those we love? but anyways i get faust. i too want to experience everything and feel the joy and hatred of living; i just wouldn’t sleep with someone FORTY years younger than me to do so but maybe that’s just me idk. also this translation is amazing, like real poetry. i don’t think i’ve ever read a translation as good as this one; it keeps the meter and the rhythm of the original while still being exciting and true to the story. i want to read the second one but its also so different, so maybe ill just end her. anyways i love, amazing book

not a fan of the polar opposite parts, buutt it was overall a great work. it was also a good "mind workout", because it took me some time to completely grasp what was happening the whole time
