I reallllly tried to like this book because it had such good potential from the beginning.

We basically follow the characters on a mission to fight the darkling and Emma literally goes from normal life to being thrown onto this mission with a bunch of people she doesn't know but know that they work for her aunt who she has been shipped to, to live with. And she seems okay with this. Everyone in the group knows that Emma is different from the other Nephilim alive and because of this they listen to what she has to say.

This is where I couldn't connect. All these expert protectors and fighters listened quite happily to a 17-year-old who only found out she was 'special' 24 to 48 hours beforehand and has no training or knowledge whatsoever. I would have killed us all at 17 in this scenario, as soon as we had left the house. I tried to love the main love interest but he was trying to pull off the protective 'I want her, don't touch her' vibes and it was working, but he's cute.

Everything seemed a bit forced and not natural at all, especially with the character interactions. Although there were some funny one-liners from a couple of the side characters. There were numerous times where things were premeditated and then the bad guys would listen to Emma's questions while she was captured (which happened a lot) and happily answer them. Aren't they supposed to be the ones in control? Not a 17 year old girl...

liked the story but I'm not a huge fan of her writing style. I want to finish the series tho!

I mostly skim read this - especially when the instalove/special snowflake started showing. To be honest it was way, way too trope-y for me, plus the protagonist tended to piss me off. The writing and plot were just meh and bland, and the instalove made me want to throw up a little

This was so, so awful that I got about 25% in and threw in the towel.

My notes for the review I was going to write up and then abandoned because no, I will not be finishing this terrible book.

- Dead parents? Who cares about dead parents when you have a hot guy around?

- RIDICULOUS. And melodramatic. Kade saying he has some big secret? And being completely obvious about it? Really?

- What is grammar? :D :D :D /shoots self

- WTF is an 'exasperated look of sorry'.

- Godawful dialogue. Nobody speaks like this. Nobody.

- Insta-love. Stupid insta-love. Again, did you forget about your dead parents? Where is the freaking emotional upheaval.

- Show not tell does not apply at all. This hurts my eyes from reading.

- So, so clunky. Descriptions, prose, action, emotions, everything.

- I GIVE UP

Yeahhh. Take pity on your eyes and brain and go right past this one.

Adding a review for this as I've rated it without a review.

A lot of things have happened since. 2014 Was a very hard year for myself so all the reviews are showing up on the same date. I can't explain why they are, if the ratings are justice or accurate I can also not say when I truly read these. I'm just going to say 2014 on the same day added just to keep the year right if not the month...

I received an e-copy of this book from the publishers at NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I had actually heard good things about the author, Cameo Ranae, before I ended up putting in a request for this book. I had seen this book several times while looking through the Amazon Kindle books and had bypassed it thinking I didn't want to purchase the book from an author I only recognized from word of mouth and perhaps end up regretting my purchase. So I waited. I had all but forgotten about the book when it showed up on NetGalley. Here was the PERFECT opportunity to try out a new author's writing and see if I liked what she produced. It was a choice I definitely don't regret.

Emma's work is rocked to it's core when she awakens in a hospital bed and is told that the parents she has loved her whole life were killed in a car crash. No matter the amount of times her survival is deemed a miracle, Emma wishes she had died along side her loving parents. Emma can't understand what has happened to her life nor what will come of it now.

It is only in the darkest recesses of Emma's grief that she learns she does have one more living relative. An aunt who lives in Alaska and will do anything to be given the chance to take care of Emma. Emma is hesitant since she has never heard mention of this aunt and she doesn't want to leave her life in sunny California for the an unknown destination in frigid Alaska. However, left with no other choice, she relents to starting her life over.

It is only after she meets her devastatingly handsome escort that she becomes a bit more accepting of her destination. That is until she comes face-to-face with a creature of nightmares. Deathly pale, smelling of rot, and with bloodlust in it's eyes, Emma realizes that her move to Alaska may not be as boring and safe as she first believed.

I hope I am not giving anything away but... this book is about angels. Yes, I am sure most caught that from the title. There are hundreds of books (especially in fiction) about angels. So, it's a pretty tough task to find angel books that are original. Surprisingly, this book was fairly unique. It incorporates a new breed of create into the typical angel story line that gives it a little something extra. The Darklings, while not a main focal point, were one of my favorite new races I have read about. Their appearance in an otherwise structured angel character cast set the book apart for me. Their creation along with the blossoming romance (that I absolutely love in almost all books I read, hopeless romantic that I am) in this book made for a fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hidden Wings will show its readers that even when you feel you're plummeting to your death in times of tragedy, someone, or even a group of someones, will always be there to give you wings to soar.

This was actually a pleasant book to read. It was very fast paced and quick. I read it only in a couple of hours! The thing I really liked was that it was more realistic then other books. For example, I have read books where just like in Hidden Wings, the girl's family die in a horrible car crash and she's left in the hospital, but in other books, the authors describe it as no big deal and next thing you know, the girl is happy and fine with the fact she just lost everyone she loved. But in this book, no no no, she actually grieves and shows true emotion that we would show and thats how you relate to her. I think just by relating to a character makes any book 10 times more amazing! But that's just one example. If you read the book, or if you have, then you notice it happens a lot which is an awesome thing to read (in my opinion) because you know what he/she is going through exactly.

Just like I said in the beginning, this book IS fast-paced. If you miss one page by accident you will probably miss something big. Literally. This book is A C T I O N packed! It made me want to be an angel and fight the enemy myself! The author, Cameo Renae, really made it sound so exhilarating and fun yet scary and dangerous at the same time, it was quite bizarre. But I LOVED it! Plus, not only did the main girl, Emma Wise, lose her parents, but she goes through a lot more. You find out so much stuff that you're sort of feeling " oh crap. I feel bad for her". I kid you guys not, I actually felt bad for her because she goes through so much. Talking about this now, even though, yes, she does go through more than a 17 year old should have to go through but she STILL comes out strong! Like, lets just all take a moment to praise Emma. Phew. She is like an avenging angel. She is so strong that you WISH you were as strong as her. And I mean, emotionally, mentally and soon physically (when she gets her full angelic power). Lets forget about how strong she is for now and talk about how she has NOT 5 but 6 angels to protect her and might I just add, who are all HOOOOOOTTTTTTT!! They are: James, Malachi, Dom, Alex, Thomas and her love interest Kade. I love Kade. Obviously haha! If you read this, you will understand why there's just no way NOT to fall in love with Kade.

Sorry about my mini rant (I guess not THAT mini) but this book is a must-read! I think this is an interesting take on angels and it is kind of refreshing from books like Hush Hush, Fallen etc. GO OUT NOW AND BUY IT!!
