3.5 stars.

I don’t usually enjoy medieval high fantasy settings, but I liked this one. It had the ingredients necessary to keep my interest, albeit some pacing issues. I mostly listened to this in audiobook format, which definitely helped getting through the lulls.

I’m surprised at how fond I became of the characters. Hero’s journey (+ their motley crew) isn’t usually my go-to trope, but something about this worked for me. I like angry, scarred, no sh*ts given women. I like wild gods and animal (*god) companions.

Not quite sure what my overall take is on this one yet but I’ll be picking up the second book, if only to see what happens to the characters.

This book had so much potenional. But it was so badly done that I dont even know where to start.

First the plot and pacing. The storyline follows Kissen, a godkiller by trade, whose life is upended when she encounters a young girl mysteriously connected to a powerful god. Would belive that this promises high stakes and an emotional journey, something that I usually like. The plot unfolds at a frustratingly slow pace, like a super slow pace that is killing me.Events are dragged out and critical moments that should evoke tension and excitement fall flat. The narrative often feels just off with taking on random  things. that has no real relevance to the carather deveopment or plot devopment.

The caracthers are one-dimensional and struggle to evoke empathy. Kissen, her motivations and internal conflicts lack depth, which they should not. Like there is so many things that could lead to it. All the suporting caracthers, are just... not there? Like they feel like puppets and not like any real person.

The worldbuiding has potential yet it is often inconsistent and confusing. The rules with gods and their interactions with humans are not clearly defined. I just feel like it gets all confusing. leading me to get even less intrested in the book.

The actual writing style is also not at all a thing for me. It just feels all wring. Like the actual interactions are not at all something I am a fan off. Like it feels all... unatural?

Like honestly, this book is just too much of a toll onmy brain for me to even care anymore.
