September 2019 update:

Really helped us talk about our feelings and situations where we've felt like that. Didn't have time for charades unfortunately - we'll do it next week.

Summer 2019 update:

Current me would like to thank previous me for planning a nice half-an-hour lesson for PSHE on recognising feelings using this book and finishing it off with a game of charades. It's definitely accessible to all and I look forward to sharing it with my new Y4 class.

07/09/18: Completely changed my mind - 4*

I used this book for PSHE and it was really accessible for all of Y4. (I do have some children working at Y2.) It was great for discussing people's feelings, emotions and 'jumping to conclusions'. It was extremely useful and it was great for impersonalising the discussion. It makes it easier for children to talk about feelings when it's someone else in a book. We had a full-on circle time, which was really cute!

Yeah I like it but I'm not sure if its appropriate for Y3.

Wundervoll zum Philosophieren mit Kindern.
Die Illustrationen haben mich sofort angesprochen. Einfach eine süße, kleine Geschichte über Freundschaft, neue Gefühle und das Miteinander.

Sarah made me feel quite nostalgic of my own childhood at the beginning of the story through recreating that youthful feeling of invincibility and endless possibilities. This is a really lovely atmosphere that I think could almost be comforting for children, and would definitely be a great stimulus for writing. It is the later shift in this atmosphere that highlights the complexities of childhood friendships, along with the inevitability of change within these relationships. She leaves a lasting impression that nothing is permanent, life is constantly moving- which is something that all children will have to come to terms with. These changes can even be turned into a positive.
I would definitely use this text during circle time and during occasions where children are finding it difficult to adjust to 'threats' to friendship, and overcoming the feeling of jealousy.
