Oshimi is very good at drawing beautiful women, and expressive faces that capture incredibly specific emotions. This time we have a canon trans character although she doesn't have much going on yet besides kissing people nonconsensually and hinting at a multifaceted gender identity, similar to Oshimi’s own that he's described before. Not that much goes on in this volume and I'd say it's carried a lot by the art, and my high expectations for Oshimi. Writing is well paced as always
So far I'd say I liked this volume. I have come to appreciate his frankness about sex. So far I have high hopes for this series although I don't expect it to reach how much I loved Inside Mari. When Oshimi laid out his thesis for what he's gonna do in the next volume I was like yeah baby let's go deconstruct masculinity

I don't know if I liked this. It was very much childhood friend ends up being trans but it wasn't ... hey I'm a girl now lets still be friends.... it was more I'm a girl now we can do different sexual things... gave sexual predator vibes.
ending doesn’t quite stick the landing in the way i generally prefer (all this stuff about transcendence a little too much for me) but i can agree with the general sentiment - what good is male sexuality, anyways? oshimi’s art is incredible, there’s always a latent horror to eri’s presence and you always have to ask yourself why that is (the secret is that oshimi is the biggest repressor in literary history) but i’m always happy for evil transfem representation regardless

Unlikeable main characters and leans into potentially transphobic tropes around over-sexualization and deception.

A few mixed feelings about this one but overall I really liked the first volume, and I definitely want to keep reading. Asks interesting questions about how much we all perform gender and how we choose to address that, how much control we have over other people’s perceptions of us, what limits have we questioned/pushed or not, etc. The art is also so beautiful, and the expressions are so moving and complex and subtle in a way that makes me want to keep reading and know more. Also a lot of actions that make you wonder about the characters’ motivations; characters make poor or hurtful choices that don’t feel necessarily malicious, which I liked and wanna know more about
