After loving Book 1 and then hearing a couple of friends give this one mixed reviews I was a little sceptical about if I was going to enjoy this one myself but it’s safe to say that I read the vast majority of it in 1 afternoon as it was just so intense that I was unable to put this down or think about anything else, it’s safe to say that this series has me on the edge of my seat with the twists and turns!

This Books picks up a month or so after the 1st book, Avery is set on proving that something she uncovers in book one is in fact true but the more she and the boys dig, the more they discover that some things shouldn’t be unearthed. Plus, just like in the first book Avery has people wanting her dead and now has bodyguards with her wherever she goes.

Once again, the plot is incredibly fast-paced and kept me on my toes with tones of twists and turns that I never saw coming or expected. I didn’t think that things could get any more intense, but they did, I loved all the secrets and cryptic puzzles throughout the book and trying to work these out myself along with the main characters was enjoyable.

I have no clue what to expect going into book 3 but I know for a fact that it’s going to be the next book I pick up as I need to know what happens next.

This book redeemed the first. I was a big fan of all the twists and turns. I still fucking hate Max though since she simply won’t stop with the ultra annoying non-cursing. If she doesn’t swear, then just don’t add it into her vocabulary to say elf and faxing constantly. Cringey beyond reason.

If she could’ve stopped being absurdly annoying, this book would’ve received a better review from me. I also still really dislike the short chapters. And lastly, there were a lot of spelling errors.

I initially gave this a higher rating than I should’ve. When I think about this series, I feel regret about wasting my time on these books. And feel absolutely nothing about the story being worth my time. I’ll award it a generous 1 star review.

Liked this one better than the first! Maybe it’s because I knew the characters better and it didn’t fit so much into the common YA mystery plot line that I feel I’ve read a bunch of times. I have my favorite brother, and I’m really holding out for that endgame. Do I understand why Avery is interesting/unique/worth two brothers vying for her? No. But c’est la vie!!!

The first book was a lot of fun with the puzzles and mystery element. The love triangle was annoying as fuck but the positives outweighed the rest. This one lost what made the first one fun. It felt like a filler novel and the entire love triangle was annoying. I finished it more for the sake of finishing it. The first one I get the hype, but I don’t get it for the rest of trilogy. This should’ve been a standalone. I found the plot convoluted as well.
