I think it's an interesting essay to read.

Spoiler It seems like the narrator didn't really like his job as a police officer (he said that imperialism is an evil thing; he wanted to get it over as soon as possible because of his experience being targeted and because he's seen some dirty stuffs going around). But as someone from a once-oppressed country, I just- the narrative felt like you're victimizing yourself LMAO. The killing the elephant part, ah... it just makes me dislike him even more because I love animals. Please the elephant died a painful death because of his incompetency (he said that he can't shoot well) and pride (I think he'd like to show dominance over people watching). I understand how pressure from society could be burdensome and make a good person bad, but still... animals :(

Like a greatest hits collection of songs by the Beatles, a curated collection of George Orwell essays is ipso facto a curated collection of some of the best ever written. For my teacher friends, especially those involved in the teaching of English, this would be a highly worthwhile book to have on the shelf as a handy resource for learning to write essays.

Dr. Cook would be proud.
