God I hated this guy, which was the point, but I wanted a character arc. Ok art.

Interesting racial discussions... Nothing like a good dose of cringe humor in the morning!
This is my second read of Tomine's work. I liked it more than [b:Summer Blonde|76579|Summer Blonde|Adrian Tomine|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1367311718s/76579.jpg|74090]. The main character, Ben, was as unlikable as the characters in Summer Blonde but both he and the story the story were much better developed. Of course, Summer Blonde was four short stories, so that's probably not a fair comparison. I also enjoyed the exploration of race and sexuality in Shortcomings (and +1 on the title word play).
