Haunting, surreal, poetic writing, like something out of a dream. But also a few too many questions unanswered at the end, and I thought there was that familiar distance I often see in literary fiction that prevented me from feeling something beyond “oh this writing is absolutely beautiful”.

Content warnings: Violence (man slaps a woman), body horror, death, death of parent, deep water, mentions of drowning, confinement, hallucinations
