Wilde’s only novel is a favourite of mine: a masterpiece of decadence, wit, and moral unease. Every page brims with razor-sharp epigrams and shimmering imagery, yet beneath the glitter lies a dark meditation on vanity, corruption, and the soul’s decay.

my favorite thing about the picture of dorian gray is how no one ever sits down like a normal person, they always 'fling' themselves onto whatever chair or divan or sofa. it's wonderful.
okay so…
I tried getting through this book for a long time. I’ve picked it up and dropped it twice, first because of the long descriptions and monologues and then the second time because the plot fell flat for me.
BUT! This time around I could not put the book down. I promise that it will take a while to get into the story but once you’re in, you’re stuck. I still don’t understand every single meaning and detail of the book but it was definitely worth finally finishing. I love love love the duality between Basil and Lord Henry, and seeing Dorian change throughout the book is so interesting!

I really loved it, first encounter with Wilde's writings and it was a great one. Chapter 11 was kind of hard to go through but I loved the morale, the way the change in Gray is portrayed throughout the story. It's very interesting to see the way meeting lord Henry changed Gray's life completely. Would definitely recommend !

I’m glad I read it, and parts of it were great and really beautifully written. But most of it was Lord Henry spraffing absolute shite and there’s a huge chapter in the middle detailing Dorian’s various hyperfixations which was so DULL.
Reading this book is like looking into a collective mirror of how ridiculous the empty and vain obsession with beauty and youth is. Surprisingly, however, this insightful reflection is not only grotesque but also hilarious.
