Overall, interesting book with a good message. The ending is what really stuck out to me though. I love how we see Dorian gray grow up and develop into this horrible ‘creature’. Only negative thing I would say is the chapter regarding all his collections of art and jewelry. I don’t know if there’s supposed to be some deep meaning behind it, but the fact that it was 20 pages long made me skip it.

so many great quotes from this book. as strange as it may seem, i really wish i had read this book in class, not on my own, to provide opportunities to meditate on and discuss Dorian’s conversations with Lord Henry (as well as his own complex life).

Absolutely wild (pun intended?). I had never read the story prior but I knew of it through cultural osmosis and the legend appearing in other media. The origin of Dorian Gray is rather hilarious. The homoeroticism, the scorn for hetero love and women in general, and the appreciation for art, beauty, sin, life... There were so many lines that struck me viscerally.

Wilde’s only novel is a favourite of mine: a masterpiece of decadence, wit, and moral unease. Every page brims with razor-sharp epigrams and shimmering imagery, yet beneath the glitter lies a dark meditation on vanity, corruption, and the soul’s decay.

my favorite thing about the picture of dorian gray is how no one ever sits down like a normal person, they always 'fling' themselves onto whatever chair or divan or sofa. it's wonderful.
