I was given a copy to review as part of a book tour. My reviews are always honest and all opinions are my own. #BookNetwork #DidSheSeeYou #Jason Johnson #BookTour #TheBookNetwork #BookReview
Did She See You was a wonderful surprise if a little dark. At the very basic line we have a family struggling with the aftermath of a murder and loss. We also have themes of mental illness and grief but in a respectful and thoughtful way. While it is the crux of the plot it is not used just for a device and it is clear Johnson has done his research.
In the book we have Denis desperately trying to find the answer to the question – Did She See You? That is did his wife knew that his stepdaughter was her killer. But Miriam – the daughter – is locked in a Belfast psychiatric ward believes her brain is connecting to social media and intercepting exchanges. Denis is determined to follow his own advise as a life coach and be ‘alpha male’ enough to come out on top. He visits Mim to break through her useless white noise but when a social media star seeks an introduction to Mim, Denis wants no part of it but when the meeting takes place in secret the question of Did She See You takes on a whole new chilling mean.
I actually adored this one in both terms of style and plot. Johnson weaves a tale that blurs the line between fantasy and reality but also captures the true feelings and devastation of heartbreak. The characters are so well fleshed out and interesting – I particularly liked Mim and how she was represented. It kept me guessing right to the end, which was both perfect and unexpected.
All in all I really enjoyed this one and if you like psychological thrillers you will definitely enjoy this one.
