I bought this during our first admission week with my daughter who is suffering from migraines, and after a week at home I finished it after she was admitted the second time. Still praying for God to fix it, but learning to trust Him no matter what the plan.

This was an amazing book and a great bible study. This book doesn't make you think less of yourself and actually makes you think deeper about what God is trying to teach you. he doesn't always give us the answer that we've been praying for and at times we have to go through something horrible to find the beauty and glory in God, but it is so worth it to have such strong faith in our Lord and to have someone to always rely on even when we feel alone.

Finding this book at a random book barn sale turned out to be such a sweet gift!! the main message of the book was that God gives us all stories, and there will be times in our lives where these stories are very broken and/or unfinished. while the world encourages sharing stories when they are wrapped up neatly, Laura shares her own story of how she learned to share her own struggles while they were still struggles. it was a very timely reminder that God uses all struggles and stories for his glory, and the blessings truly come when we surrender our unfinished stories to Him, for His glory. It was so encouraging to me, and I am grateful for this book!

Laura strikes that rare balance in books around chronic health : raw vulnerable, honest. But not self-aggrandizing or sensationalizing her suffering. The result is so relatable and uplifting. Every chapter concludes with a “Myth” and a Truth, and these are worth the whole book. Loved this and am sharing with friends.

When God Doesn't Fix It: Lessons You Never Wanted to Learn, Truths You Can't Live Without by Laura Story is the life experience of Laura Story and her husband Martin. Laura Story is a worship leader and recording artist best known for her song 'Indescribable'. Laura and her husband Martin were newly married when Laura started to notice that something was wrong with her husband. Martin started feel tired all the time and he would constantly sleep. It got to the point where he would fall asleep at meetings, while he was having a conversation with someone, and even during class. Laura and Martin were unsure why this was happening and eventually Martin was diagnosed with a brain tumor. This story is about Laura coming to terms with the fact that God doesn't always fix the problems that we want Him to. Laura struggles with the news that Marin's short-term memory, eyesight and other complications don't have a cure. The first thing Laura and Martin did when finding out that Martin had a brain tumor was to pray to God that He would heal Martin. When that didn't happen, they felt that God had let them down because He didn't answer them according to their expectations. Despite everything, Laura has found joy and happiness and grown closer to God through her situation. She has learned that God uses our problems to make our relationship with Him stronger. Laura uses stories from the Bible to show how God uses the the flaws and flawed stories of the heroes of faith in extraordinary ways.

I listened to this as an audiobook and I loved the narrator and the narration of this book and would highly recommend the audiobook! This book is incredibly amazing and beautiful and has helped me a lot in my own faith journey. This book has shown me so much about God and how he uses our stories for His glory. He might not 'fix' our broken situations or do what we expect or want from Him but He ultimately knows whats best for us and our relationship with Him. There were many times in Laura's life when she felt tempted to be angry with God for what happened or for not healing Martin but she realized something important, "am I going to let my circumstances determine my view of God, or am I going to let God determine how I view my circumstances?" This book is filled with myths and truths and examples of how God uses our stories to grow us closer to Him. This book is also filled with tips to help us work through difficult situations that we may be going through. I loved how Laura and Martin were surrounded by people that cared for them such as their friends, family and church. The support that they got from their church was so touching and beautiful to read about because they were always there to speak the truth and tell them things that they might not have wanted hear but were important. This book was so beautiful and heartbreaking and made me cry but also filled me with hope. I am so glad that I picked this book up and will definitely be rereading this many more times in the future. This is my favorite book that I have read so far this year because it has changed my life and made me see from a different perspective and I love it! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that is interested in reading it and to anyone that may be going through a tough time in their lives, I hope this book helps and fills you with peace.

loved the story and the rawness of it all, but the dialogue and writing just weren't great. definitely one to read if you feel like God isn't answering your prayers! Laura's story kept reminding me that God's goodness is infinitely bigger than all of my problems, and that His plan usually doesn't look how we think it should

I’ve been slowly reading this book along with my quiet time for the past couple months and it was so what I needed to read. It was so encouraging to read Laura and her husband’s story and how God was always working

I need to say up front that I think Laura Story and I have a LOT of differences in personality, life style, and even theology. There are parts of this book that I find uncomfortable and even a little cringey. BUT God is clearly working in her life, and her willingness to share His story through her and her family led to some really amazing, five star sections in this book.

I wouldn't recommend this as the first book you read on trials and suffering. (Maybe start with A Place of Healing: Wrestling with the Mysteries of Suffering, Pain, and God's Sovereignty by Joni Eareckson Tada if you haven't read it yet.) But God has you in a place in life where you need encouragement from multiple sources on how to make it through the hard times, definitely add this one to your list!
