This book dares to ask the question,  "What if Six of Crows, but French?"
Unfortunately, the character relationships are way underdeveloped to the point that I don't buy 2 of the 3 romance subplots. The plot is fine, I guess, but there are a bunch of inconsistancies and missed opportunities. Part VII  (the ending) was a complete miss for me, with a million time skips and characters acting so so toxic because grief I guess?
I wanted to like this, so much. But I will not be continuing the series.

This book is fast paced and twisty with a full cast of diverse and intensely likable characters. I am on the edge of my seat for book 2!

an absolutely miserable slog. rushed where it should linger with suspense, lingered where no one could possibly care. characters were shockingly flat and unsympathetic. seems like it’d pride itself on diverse representation and worldbuilding. some almost interesting moments along those lines, but nothing ever develops beyond a brief flash of pseudo-insight. disappointing, tedious, and occasionally insulting. it’s a bad book.
