The overall concept is amazing and important to know, although the writing style was difficult and not super entertaining to get through.

[read for class]
I have been extremely interested in the culture of the native peoples of North America and have always held a distant disgust for the horrors America did and still do to them. I was already appalled, but Diane Glancy opened my eyes wider. The monstrous acts committed by the U.S. government and the personal struggles, as well as physical the trail brought about, were captured in the barest form and the reader is shown the horrors many do not know about due to a biased history.

This book gave so much history in an interesting way. It was fun to read about the removal in a fiction/first person format. Reading about it from an omnipotent point of view can be hard to really sympathize with and since I was reading this for research it was really nice to get a closer perspective. Although Diane Glancy didn’t walk the trail (I mean no one alive today did) I felt she really did her research and write a book that captures the emotions of the trail. I would love to know a native perspective of this book!

I loved how lyrical the prose was and the many different perspectives within the novel. A beautiful and personal retelling of a horrible and horrifying event
