What happens when the gods aren't needed anymore? Adams puts a humorous spin on the idea.

This is great. All the old gods shuffling around the real world, nostalgic for the old days when everyone worshipped them. I'd be cheesed off too.
Adams' humour really sparks in this one; up there with his best work.

Douglas Adams detectives are completely odd, strange, yet entertaining until the end. The plot doesn't connect in all of the places, but it doesn't even matter. No really, it doesn't matter. Read them. now.

Definitely not my kind of book. I only finished it to find out what happened to the characters in the end. It was very absurd, and even though it was written 10 years before Neil Gaiman's American God's, I felt it was a poor attempt at an American Gods- style story with underdeveloped characters and a quickly wrapped up ending. And while, Neil Gaiman incorporates metaphors the reader should be looking for, I didn't really see there was a deeper meaning I should be looking for. Oh, well.

My review from 1997 reads: Quick read. Slightly silly.
