A cute and sweet sapphic vampire story. The final confrontation felt a bit rushed, but overall a very good read

Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC.

This book was average. It had an awesome Gothic setting and vampires but failed to get my attention. It felt like the book was exciting at the beginning and the end, but the middle was 'meh' and dragged. For how dramatic the build-up was, it felt like there should have been more action. I thought the sapphic relationship was mostly done well, but communication could have improved it. And it was lovely to have different genders and sexualities represented and accepted. The found family aspect made this book nice.

I managed to get 80% of the way through but the story just didn’t captivate me. I tried, but in the end I just wasn’t invested enough to finish.

my heart, my body, and my soul have been forever unmade by the words in this book. i was deconstructed and examined, laid bare by these characters and this story. i am whole only because they built me anew.

This book did not meet my expectations. From the get go I was bored. Some parts got more entertaining but after longs hours of hoping for an improvement.

The writing is good, that was not an issue. However, I didn't feel like I was in the Victorian era at all. And that is a shame.

I'm a bit saddened this book was not for my tase, but well, it happens!

Kinda everything I personally wanted from a sapphic gothic vampire romance ngl and I love the found family in this. I love the main couple of course. Poppy is a delight. The writing is beautiful, but I felt like just sometimes (rarely) it could be a bit awkward because it either felt a bit repetitive or excessive or a weird word choice just took me out. The main plot is alright, but the characters really were the main reason I was reading. Honestly, my biggest complaint might actually be that I wanted a bit more of them...
