What an epic. This book was such a treat, 21 hours of the most delightful Irish brogue. The story was so unexpected, following the life of Cyril for 70 years. Characters come in and out and we, the reader, know the relationships and meanings, while the characters don't. A great deal of well played foreshadowing. I love this book, it was resonate with me for some time, like A Little Life did, but a little less tragic.

This book is massive, but it flows well. Sometimes when you ready a 600+ page book, you’re like, OK let’s go, but this one worked. Divided into seven-year sections spanning about 70 years, the story follows Cyril’s coming of age as a gay man in Ireland. He was adopted at a young age, something his adoptive parents made sure he understood, and spent his life trying to discover who he is and where he belongs. One of my favorite parts was watching how the author found a way to tie Cyril’s biological mother in his life without either of them realizing their connection, but feeling the pull all the same.

Loved this book. Really well written, heartbreaking, sometimes funny. Full spectrum of emotions.
