I wasn't in the right place to read this and caused a little crisis. I need to think about a lot of personal things.

I’ve always been a skeptic of religions and various beliefs. I found it hard to believe some guy up in the sky should have created all of this. Calling this belief Satanism feels like some flashy way of making it seem more extreme than this belief actually is. Despite many flashy aspects below the surface I see beliefs I’ve had for awhile now.
I was displeased with the phallocentric, misogynistic elements, but overall the philosophy is revolutionary in terms of sexual relationships and respectful hedonism. Although a woman is used as an alter, representing the earth mother and practically worshiped, she is referred to as "passive."
Kinda neat, but utterly hegemonic and masculinist. Pretty much Andrew Tate with eyeliner. There were some bouts of good prose, which were appreciable when they appeared. Far from the countercultural text that it is often billed as.
if i could give this 0 stars i would. lavey was so effin weird for writting this and making up those nonsensical dogmas. im so glad modern satanism got over this dude

Read primarily out of curiosity and an interest in understanding. The first half explains the basic principles of La Veyan Satanism and La Vey’s philosophy. The first half I would read again. The second half goes into the more mystical side of Satanism. While being anti religious La Vey was not specifically against spirituality. His belief in magic is somewhere between psychodrama and ceremonial occult Magic. The second half I would be unlikely to revisit.
