This was a haunting and beautiful story. Reading from the veiw of a young woman who feels as if she is living in the shadow of the woman who came before her. She struggles in a competition and the fear of not being better than her and watching the mystery of the ex wife, Rebecca's life played out and who she was as a person. It made me want to pat her on her back and tell her she is enough and also slap her and tell her to knock it off. When I started this book I thought it was a book about a ghost. It wasn't a haunting I was expecting but more of a mental haunting.

5 glowing stars for Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

This may be the best suspense novel I've ever read. I was on the edge of my seat the entire book and I just couldn't put it down once I started. Rebecca is considered to be a gothic romance and it was rather dark throughout. The setting in 1930's England and at the Estate of Manderley was excellent, and the characters were all very memorable. I also loved the ending of the novel. It ended with a cruel twist of fate that was so fitting to the story.

Rebecca is a wonderful novel. Recommended if you enjoy gothic/dark romance stories and/or suspense novels.
