Reread: Yup, still love this one.
Original review: That was cute and funny and serious and sad and happy all at the same time, and basically everything that I've ever wanted in a book.

3.5 stars, but rounding up. The dialogue was zippy and fun in this one, which elevated it a little above some of the other YA I've read lately (although, it can be a bit much at times). Also, the focus on friendships (although romance, of course, isn't completely avoided) made it a winner for me. If I'd read it as a teen it probably would have made 5 stars, but one of my least favorite plot points is unnecessary secrets and from an adult's perspective, a lot of the character's secrets were...unnecessary?
I'm interested in reading more Benway, though--this one had a lot of heart and a lot of wit.

Seriously this book was amazing . Not only is about losing someone but gaining so much more . These characters grew so much through out this book.
Meh. The story was cute enough... but there were just so many eye-rolls with the writing. Uuuuugh. It was alright.
YA Non-Cliché
I loved every element of this book. The young love felt authentic, the storyline was perfect for a YA thriller, and the characters were dynamic. I felt like it addressed serious issues with both humor and directness. Highly recommended.

Bardzo przyjemna książka, opowiadająca o dorastaniu i problemach napotykanych po drodze, a także o przyjaźni i rozkwitającej miłości :)
Dodatkowo motyw plaży i oceanu w tle nadaje wspaniały klimat

I loved this book! It was a lot more substantial and important than the title and cover suggests!
After the kidnapping of her friend 10 years ago, Emmy has dealt with Oliver’s disappearance and overprotective parents when all she wants is to be able to live her own life. When Oliver’s found, Emmy just wants to pick up where they left off but will they be able to?
With a title like Emmy & Oliver and a cover featuring hearts and curly cursive-like writing, this book looks like a fluffy romance from the get to however it could not be further from that! While the are definitely cutesy romantic moments featured in this novel, it is not the main focus. This book really dealt with family and friends, growing up and becoming your true self.
There was something so authentic about this book. The characters felt and behaved like real teenagers and the different portrayals of family dynamics was such a nice addition to the book. Four families were featured in this book and each were different but an example of a real family, overprotective and small, big and manic, reserved and not completely supportive.
The romance that was featured in this book was so enjoyable and a perfect addition that an incredible story. It was the perfect amount of slow burn that didn’t once feel dragged out and it didn’t distract or take away for the important topics covered in this novel.
Overall I thought this book was outstanding! It dealt with difficult, heavy topics but it still managed to be light and fluffy. I would highly recommend!

I haven't read a Robin Benway book in YEARS -- not since Audrey, Wait. and I'm SO GLAD I waited until Emmy & Oliver. I loved that this was darker than Benway's other books, but still with a touch of humor. I loved that parents and best friends were front and center. I thought the last third was a little rushed (and I did notice a scene where Emmy goes a party and leaves behind her car and then two scenes later is driving it, but hopefully that got cleared up in FFP!). This book was just so lovely - a story of friendship and family and losing and gaining. I really enjoyed it.
"But sometimes happiness means different things to different people."
HOLYYYYYYYY I HAVEN'T READ SUCH A GOOD CONTEMPORARY IN SO LONG.
I just want to hug this book and Emmy and Oliver and Caro and Drew. This book is friendship goals. It's growing up. It's seeing both sides of a story. It's understanding a parent's worry for their child and not wanting to let go. It is sweet and swoony and so beautifully written filled with life lessons.
