I was expecting it to be darker and have more smut, or at least more plot movement.

i feel like this book has two extremes, you either give it 5 stars or 1 star, i’m not giving it only 1 star because the protagonist cracked a few jokes that genuinely made me laugh, however.............the plot was not interesting enough to make me read the second book and the characters stressed me out, men written by women are amazing, but these men? they’re *ssholes 99.9% of the time, super shallow and ungrateful, and even though this girl doesn’t even remember her own name after 5 and half years being invisible all they are worried about is the fact that they think she’s hot and want to have sex with her, there is a lot of tension but almost no action and i think the whole book could’ve been amazing if the characters weren’t so shallow and unlikeable, including the protagonist whose entire personality revolves around the fact that she likes those men enough to put up with their shit that would’ve had anyone with even an ounce of self respect and dignity running the other way, maybe it gets better in the other books but i just felt like there was so much happening and at the same time nothing at all???? not sure if that makes sense but this one was a little bit of a disappointment even for yours truly who has absolutely no capacity of forming critical thoughts at any given moment 😃

i always find the first book of any series a bit slow-- they usually are. it takes a bit to build up the new world you're heading into, but this one was a bit on the faster side. it opens with a bang (teehee) from the moment you begin reading. i genuinely found myself coming back as often as i could to keep reading cause i needed to have more. right away, i found myself rooting for keyla because she was funny and relatable. no, i'm not a ghost who can't be seen, but unlike other protagonists (who i still adore), she was kinda quirky and awkward and that resonated. but, she's also very forward and honest-- she knows what she wants. and i'm just as intrigued about the boys. and of course, i need them to hurry up and get their heads out of their asses and realize how much they need and want keyla. i'm definitely invested in everything.
