at the start of the book i remember thinking: how far is he gonna take this star trek parody meta? the answer turned out to be pretty fucking far! it was actually very funny and i really enjoyed reading it but it definitely would've been funnier/better if it was written by a woman. the amount of missed parodies of the misogyny in star trek tos is almost sad! there only really being less than a handful of female characters does not feel like criticism of classic scifi and more like classic male writer syndrome. i did like the codas at the end that kind of functioned as one of those triple storyline episodes that get used as filler (another meta nod to tv)
Excellent book! One of those satisfying stories that, like a good time travel yarn, fold back around itself and through itself until it's twisted like a pretzel, but just exactly enough that you understand it all and relish each new facet. Scalzi is never disappointing, and his "Three Codas" managed to make the story richer.
I was planning on saying which of the three was my favorite, but I find I can't decide.
Redshirts is worth a read if you get the reference the title makes or even if (somehow) you don't!

Very funny if you're a fan of Star Trek. One of the best "endings"...it made my jaw drop.

Scalzi is great and this was more of a 3.5, but there are a few things I'm not so sure about which are holding me back.
This was pretty fun and weirdly emotional in places. I don't want to say too much because that would spoil it.
I didn't always love the writing and I feel like many of the characters speak in exactly the same way. It's hard to really define who they are as people. But still I enjoyed this one and I love how the reader is completely messed with.

Enjoyable as a "meta" poking fun at itself science fiction story. Anyone who enjoys a bit of kitschy sci-fi will enjoy this.
