Reread this after reread TPYMOV. Though I enjoyed it, I wish the zingers and witty banter were between Daphne and Mikes instead of mainly from Daphne or Julia or Ashley.

Again, emotional baggage I was not super invested in.

Tropes: Fake relationship, roommates to lovers

Another Emily Henry book completely devoured and I’m left in a book haze. I absolutely loved this book— the trope was fun and the characters had some emotional baggage they worked out. I loved getting lost in this world!

My favorite Emily Henry book I’ve read so far!! I really enjoyed Miles’ character and how much of an open heart he had towards Daphne from the beginning. I think the only thing keeping it from being a 5 star read for me was that there were some bits that felt slightly too tropey, which probably has more to do with the fact I’ve read more romcoms lately than I typically do. Also I would have loved to see Peter’s life be completely ruined a bit more, that guy sucks.

LOVED THIS BOOK. 5+++ stars.

This is now in my top two Emily Henry books (along with Book Lovers).

Daphne thinks she has everything worked out. A job she loves (children’s librarian), the perfect fiancée and a beautiful home. Things all come crashing down when she is dumped right before the wedding and has no place to go.

She ends up moving in with Miles who happens to be the ex-boyfriend of the woman that Daphne’s husband left her for. Over time they slowly develop a friendship and in the ultimate act of revenge decide they should “fake date” to get back at their exes.

This book is so much more than just Miles and Daphne’s love story. It’s also about the journey they both go on and ultimately Daphne has to decide what is most important to her in life.

The ending was perfection.

Emotional, funny, sad, touching and just an all round engaging read.

Miles and Daphne were complicated, lovely, genuine, good, sometimes messy, broken (but not irreparably so) and relatable characters. Their chemistry was perfect from those initial awkward moments when they were roomates jilted by their partners, to those tentative steps into friendship and how that developed into more. There were so many little moments throughout that made me fall in love with them both as characters as they fell for each other. Loved how when they were becoming friends their banter with each other just flowed so easily and was funny, a little dry and bubbling with underlying tension. *the way I swooned at all the different ways/tones in which Miles said Daphnes name*

They might have been opposites in a lot of ways but each of their exchanges had a spark that left me smiling at how easy, it felt between them and how that evolved into these two people who basically started off as strangers really seeing and knowing one another. The effect of their respective upbringings and how that shaped who they were and how they reacted to their complicated feelings put me through the emotional wringer. It was a sometimes bumpy ride for both of them and I was invested throughout.

Great supporting characters as well and I loved the community Daphne built for herself once she opened up to it. I especially liked the friendship that developed between her and Ashleigh. Another cracking read from Emily Henry. 5

not a perfect book but I'm so surprised by how much I enjoyed that I think it deserves the 5 stars

edit: well now I read Beach read, I cannot in good conscience have this rated higher
