Loved it. As a long time Wilco fan it was great to learn of some of the background.

It's exactly what you want it to be--unless you want it to be a book about machetes. There's no mention of machetes. You'll be disappointed.

Finally picked this up in preparation for the 20-year anniversary tour of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (which I constantly played on repeat on my Discman on the El, heading to my first job out of college in 2001). Unsurprisingly, Tweedy is as charming and funny as he is during his shows. He has written a lovely little memoir about the creative process, the music scene he came up in, his struggles with addiction, and the people that he's loved and the ones that he's hurt. I appreciate that he's honest about the fact that he can be a PITA, and that he acknowledges the damaging effect that's had on others. I've listened to YHF inside out by this point, but I think that this book will definitely enhance the experience of listening to his subsequent music.

Loved that Jeff did the audible narration.

First, I don’t think you have to be a Wilco fan to get something from it. I enjoyed his self-effacing tone and all, but the real prize was the insight on songwriting dotted throughout. Wilco-ologists, of course, will devour every line and fight about who did what to whom on Reddit. (Sounds fun.) For me, I’ll be passing some of Jeff’s wisdom on to my songwriting students. And that’s a huge win.

Audiobook version read by Jeff Tweedy. I have enjoyed the band for some time, and definitely enjoyed listening how he came into music and how his life has changed because of music and the experiences he has had. Most memoirs leave me wanting more about certain points in the subject’s life and this one is no exception. There are some gaping holes of moments and things he drops that made me go “what???” But overall listening to this for me was hearing someone who has done a lot of psychological work on himself and is on the other side of a dark place.
