Miserablist writes songs, has adventures, finds himself.

I'm not a hardcore Wilco or Uncle Tupelo fan, but I have enjoyed their music as was curious about Jeff Tweedy's creative process, which he very generously outlines throughout the course of his memoir. In addition to learning the backstory of his bands, he also shares about his upbringing, his marriage and his struggles with opiod addiction. Throughout his writing you get the sense the Tweedy is someone who is eager to embrace the entire creative process, including criticism and personality conflicts within bands and yet open, curious, creative and hard working enough to have been sought out by some pretty incredible musicians (Mavis Staples and the family of Woody Guthrie) for collaborations in addition to the amazing work created by his bands.

Not gonna lie. Wilco is my fav band. But, read by Jeff Tweedy this was still a really good listen if you are into music.

This is one of the few autobiographies I've read where the writer/artist comes off as a humble, gentle self-aware person that you could imagine being friends with. He's polar opposite to the rock star book of Bono, who came from poor beginnings but is way too full of himself. Anyone who lived who lived in small towns and found a radio station like CFNY (Toronto) that played the post-punk music of the 70's can relate to Tweedy's musings of finding your misfit's community in music, a community that had a different voice from the middle, and from the average. From this start you can understand his alt-country landing, his focus on the lyrics and the unnatural pop tinge to their music.
