If you enjoyed the Red Tent you might enjoy this book. It’s not a religious persons book. It’s a beautiful account of a woman who is at odds with her culture.

This story is really beautiful. You should read it.

What I liked: the feminist view of Biblical times, the spiritedness of the characters, the depiction of the places/culture of this time in history.

What I didn’t like: the formality and stiffness of the characters and dialogue, the pacing of the story, the lack of real believable feeling in Ana at the end.

What I will take away: a sense of belief, trust, and faithfulness in our creator … not so much in a religious way but in a more personal way.

I was certainly apprehensive about the premise upon reading, but this is truly one of the most beautiful narratives I’ve ever come across. The character of Ana and SMK’s ability to bring the often forgotten women of this time to life through such an incredible narrative are equally gripping and poignant. As a woman and a Christian, I’m so grateful for this gift SMK has bestowed to us.
