I confused the author's simplistic writing with awkward writing when I first started reading this novel, after a bit I started to get the flow of things and began to actually enjoy it. The allegorical novel paints a dark picture of humanity-as so many novels of the time-and its concise methods are effective. The novels climax is an exciting page turner. I would recommend the novel to anyone willing to take it as more than face value.

I understood this book so much better as an adult. Reading this book for the first time as a teenager in English class, I did not truly understand what this book was really about and how it related to the real world. However, I loved rereading this. It was such a page turner! Even at its most unsettling parts I could not stop reading. Such a great story and such a fascinating (and harrowing) way to examine human nature. Rip Piggy and Simon.
