This is just brilliant. When I first read this in highschool, I absolutely hated it. But reading it again in my twenties hits different. I cried so hard when the boys finally realised how dark human nature really is. Very well done.

Lord of the Flies is a fast-paced exploration of survival and the fragile line between civilization and savagery. Golding captures how quickly order collapses when Jack’s pride and hunger for dominance overtake reason and rationality. His obsession with blood, meat, and killing pulls the boys into a dangerous group psychology that drowns out Ralph’s attempts at order. The descent is both gripping and horrifying, culminating in Ralph’s desperate flight from being hunted. A true moment of raw terror and hopelessness. The timely rescue is a relief, yet it underscores the haunting truth of how close humanity is to losing itself. 9/10

I may not be a twelve year old boy, but I would've made better decisions.

Quotes:

- He wanted to explain how people were never quite what you thought they were.

- He found himself understanding the wearisomeness of this life, where every path was an improvisation and a considerable part of one’s waking life was spent watching one’s feet. - the darkness and desperate enterprise gave the night a kind of dentist’s chair unreality

- They worked therefore with great energy and cheerfulness, though as time crept by there was a suggestion of panic in the energy and hysteria in the cheerfulness.

- “Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill!”

This book shows how boys would deal with being stranded on an island without adults. It gets more and more dark as the story goes on.
