Honestly, I just didn't enjoy this. The last chapter was tense and thrilling but the ending suddenly felt obvious and overall it was just a not particularly engaging story.

Like many people I was forced to read this book at school. This is most definitely nothing like any genre I actively choose to read, but this was an alright book on the whole.

There’s a couple of fucked up bits, like with the sow, and the way Piggy was treated throughout was the worst. But it was relatively engaging and I have no doubts this is exactly what would happen in real life if you dropped a bunch of children on an island - even worse if girls were there too. Still probably wouldn’t choose to reread but 100% this is a book for intellectual people.

Am I too uneducated and uncultured to appreciate this book?

OR

Was it just one of those really boring and overrated classics?

OR

Did I just read it at the wrong age and if only I had read it when I was younger, maybe I actually would have really loved it?

━As a graduate of English Language and Literature, I will go with the second option, but feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Now, off to listen to some reviews and commentaries on it.

DID NOT FINISH: 30%

The narrator was not engaging, I had a hard time paying attention

wow that was fucked up… this book is a descent into savagery that starts off almost whimsically—no grownups! sunny beaches! ripe fruit!—but ends inevitably with blood. a chilling portrayal of the darkness of the human heart, the thirst for power, & hive mentality. we are human only because we are animals…. overall, a very fascinating read!

4 stars only cause it was kinda slow in the middle and 1950s british boys are insufferable
