Inspired me in many ways. I don't think I ever DIDN'T have chills during this book.

Boy meets rocket.

Loved the movie when I first watched it in high school. Twenty years later I finally read the book and am completely inspired all over again. While space and aeronautics is fascinating, the true story of young boys with a passion (for rocketry) and the will to learn anything that will advance their understanding of said passion (rocketry) is what inspires me the most about this story. The Rocket Boys refused to give up, and gained the support of an entire community to achieve their goals. Well told and utterly inspirational, this book easily deserves 5 stars.

Loved this book. Wept some big huge tears at the end on an airplane just feeling like real life is so hard but we learn so much from it.

Once again, I need half stars for my rating because this one was 3.5 or 3.75 stars for me. I enjoyed it, but was super absorbed with it. Granted, I was only able to stay awake for 3 pages each night before falling asleep so it took me way too long to finish (which probably skewed my feelings for it) but it made for a pretty good bookclub discussion.

That's the American Dream right there. Love this inspiring story of a boy enchanted by space and determined to figure out how to build rockets. One thing that makes this one so special is the pervasive, implicit acknowledgment that his success was only possible because literally the entire town helped him at some point or another.

Have to take some points off for content, because I can't share this with middle schoolers.
