Both Stacey Halls books have been sitting in my tbr trolley for forever and I am now thinking WHY did I not pick them up sooner?! Loved them both. Think I liked the Familiars a bit better but this one was still beautifully written. I love that these stories are based on real historic happenings. Can absolutely recommend them to everyone!

100 pages in and this was looking like a 4 or even 5 star read with the potential for a really interesting plot and descriptions of 18th century London that brought the story to life. Sadly the rest of the book didn’t deliver on the initial promise, the quality of the writing seemed to wither, the characters didn’t feel fully developed, and the storyline was pretty predictable. A missed opportunity.
