I would highly recommend reading these books in order. I hadn't realized this was book 3 in a series. I believe they are all standalone books, but there are so many players to this story that I had to go back and re-read some sections to get people straight in my mind.
Despite that, this book was so intriguing to me. All the conspiracy going on and trying to put pieces to the puzzle together made this a really enjoyable read. I'm actually a little bummed that when I go back to book 1, I'm going to know more than I should. If they are anything like this book, I know I will enjoy them despite having answers I shouldn't. I'm not going to explain a whole lot in this review because I personally think its so much more enjoyable to go in blind with this type of story.
So that was what I liked about the story. What I didn't like was how Zack treated Grace at first. Grace has been in love with Zack her whole life. Zack has always been there for her, but at a distance. He doesn't believe she is strong enough for his life. I will admit, that right there ticked me off. Their life in these families have not been easy. She has lost so much in her life and to be treated as if she couldn't handle anything was frustrating. Zack wants Grace but he doesn't think he can have her long term. His pursuit of her while expecting it to be temporary made me see red in the beginning. He knew she was in love with him. It was too late to ask her not to fall and to do that to her after everything she's gone through was cruel. I tried not to let this bother me too much because I knew in the end it would all work out but it was the only part of this story I didn't enjoy. I'm still very glad I read it and I highly recommend it to others who love a good puzzle to solve.

At the beginning I was really confused because, even if I read the previous books in this series, there were just too many names and people, then the story got to me and I'm a sucker for the damsel in distress, even if she is a strong one. Now I'm wondering if this is the last book or not.
THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

I received this book from Netgallery for free in return for my honest book review. That being said, I did not read the other two books in this series. And you must read them! There are so many characters and storylines happening that it is impossible to read this as a standalone. However, the book is very well written. Anyone who has read the prior books will enjoy this one as well.

THE HEART HAS ITS SECRETS.
Zack Richards knows he’s asking for trouble. Trying to protect a member of the notorious Maddox family could get a man killed—even a battle-scarred, muscle-ripped alpha like Zack. But the woman who has captured his wildest fantasies is nothing like the rest of her power-hungry clan. She’s innocent, beautiful, and has quickly become the one shining light in his dark, desperate world. The only woman worth fighting for…and dying for…
BUT PASSION NEVER LIES.
Her name is Grace Maddox—and everybody knows that she is a marked woman. Targeted for her family’s sins and hunted like a wild animal, Grace has no choice but to accept Zack’s protection. In his arms, she finally feels safe. In his eyes, she sees an insatiable desire that mirrors her own. But the truth is dangerous—and could end up tearing them apart. Will surrendering to Zack end up being the biggest mistake of Grace’s life?
Betrayal and secrets are the norm in the Men of Summer novels, but Dirty Little Lies has a bit more of a plot than I have come to expect from the series and from Lora Leigh. The standard alpha male is present, the innocent yet stubborn girl won't leave his mind, but this time there's a darker threat, one that's carried over from the previous novel and threatens not just Zack and Grace, but their family, and possibly the entire country. I love Zack...let's be real, I love Lora Leigh's alpha males. Grace, on the other hand, I would probably argue with her over everything. She's a confusing sort, determined to stand alone, but unaware of the power others hold over her, unaware of her innocence, and lacking some common sense. Together they're an explosive couple, the chemistry is apparent, but the threat against Grace definitely puts the romance in the backseat. I enjoyed the suspense, because even I wasn't able to guess the connections.
While Dirty Little Lies can be read as a standalone, I suggest reading at least the previous novel, Wicked Lies, first. The story, though a unique one, has some carry over from the previous and I felt some of the smaller details were still pertinent. The Maddox Family is massive, the connections are twisting, and it's impossible to sort them all out. I can't tell you how many names I forgot, which was really terrible when it came time for the big reveal. The first 35% of the novel had me scratching my head repeatedly, I really struggled to follow along and considered stopping a few times. I pushed on, though, and found myself really enjoying the winding, suspenseful tale and erotic smutty moments shared between Zack and Grace.
If you love Lora Leigh's brand of alpha-hunks and strong, stubborn women Dirty Little Lies is the book for you. It's sexy and suspenseful, a mixture of dirty talking bedroom time and guns a'blazing action.

I found it hard to keep up with the book being I haven't read the previous books but it had a good story.
Dirty Little Lies is the third book in the Men of Summer series, which is something I did not realize when I requested it from NetGalley. It can be read as a standalone, but there is a bunch of previous drama, angst, and happenings that reading about prior would probably add to the story and make it a bit easier to follow. Since I didn't read the other two books I felt a bit left out. Like there was more to these families that I just wasn't privy to. So many people were discussed and introduced that I got a little swept up and lost in the party. That is the only reason why I took away a star, and honestly it's my fault for not reading the description before reading!!
Zack and Grace have had feelings for each other since they were young. Zack has always hidden his feelings and has so many secrets that a relationship between the two of them feels nearly impossible. Grace is in trouble and Zack does everything he can to keep her safe, even though Grace is more than capable to protect herself. Will they be able to get past the secrets and lies between them and find out who the real traitor is?
This is my first read from Lora Leigh and I can happily say that I will be back for more. First I plan to read the first two books in this series, and then possibly a re-read of this story. The writing was flawless, the banter between the characters was great, the sexual tension was through the roof, and the naughty bits were steamy to say he least! If you like suspense with some hot love scenes mixed in, then this is the story for you!

Grace Maddox's mother, Lucia, has just been exposed as a traitor to her family. Her attempts at killing Grace's cousin, Kenni were almost successful. When she is caught and interrogated, Lucia accuses Grace of being the one who betrayed the family, so Grace believes she should start a new life away from Loudon, Tennessee, but she is in danger. As a member of the powerful family that runs the militia organization called "The Kin," she has many protectors, however, some believe the lies Lucia told them. Zack Richards insists that he be the one to guard Grace from further attempts on her life. Among Grace's skills is the ability to take vast amounts of information and see patterns to help draw conclusions. Zack has spent the last several months gathering data about "The Kin." Now Grace must make sense of it all before someone in her family assassinates her.
Dirty Little Lies is a continuation of the story from Wicked Lies. The mystery of who is behind the problems being experienced by "The Kin" is a good one, but the large number of people in several branches of the family that are barely identified as suspects, makes their stories difficult to follow and the ending a little hard to grasp. In addition, the romance between the two main characters is a fairly average depiction of a woman resisting the advances of a man based on her fear of being hurt. Overall, this was a pretty good story with enough romance and suspense to keep the reader interested until the end.

Out of five stars, I give this one a 10! This is book 3 in the Men of Summer series and it features Zack Richards and Grace Maddox. Let me start out with how brilliant the story line is. There were a lot of characters but they all play their part. This is the type of book that needs 110% of your attention. There's so much happening but everything eventually falls into place. I was so immersed in this story that I felt like I was there watching it all happen in real time. The mess that had become Grace's life was horrible. Losing your father, being left with a mother you knew didn't love you and the man she's wanted forever that didn't want her, or so she thought, made me want to just hug her and kick every male character in the book. Everyone thought she was this weak, fragile princess. Her strengths may not lie in picking up a weapon but she was strong in other areas. I was definitely not expecting the plot twist! Awesome!
I hope this author will continue this series because some of the Maddox brothers and cousins ABSOLUTELY need their stories told. I'm looking forward to whatever this author comes out with next.
