This was fine, but I wondered if the book had any sensitivity readers, like specifically Black folks in the US. There were just bits that felt like could have been handled with more care in the light of the American history of enslavement and its legacy. Especially in the South and especially when speaking about indigenous mysticism. Because, in the end,
the Black family in England were murderous, and their power was wielded in evil ways. The non-Christian religious aspects were used for harm. Just a lot of negatives.

An enjoyable thriller, but of the Sarah Pinborough books I have read, this was no where near my favourite. However, good plot twists, satisfying ending (although in some regards slightly predictable) and an enjoyable read
