Absolutely lovely in every way. Tagame's visual storytelling is gorgeous, his ability to portray so much in a single panel or look makes me linger on every page and every panel of this series. I cried so much reading both of these and the ending was so beautiful and sweet, it was incredibly cathartic. I could go on and on about this series, I'm going to reccommend it to everyone I know.

I just got done sobbing over that beautiful ending. First completed book of the year and I’m so glad it was this one.

This series puts a silly smile on my face like no other. I just feel so comforted by it, kind of the same feeling I get when watching Ponyo (even though this book was a touch heavier than the first). It’s really driven home the fact that I love found-family narratives (even though these three are family by default).

What I loved in particular about this conclusion was Yaichi’s character development. There were so many parallels to the first book and he really came full circle.

Wildly, I rated the last installment only 3 stars but this final volume gets a 4.5 (5) stars from me! You can read my review of the first book here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2283321178?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1

I cried my way through this book. The issues I held with the second book were pretty much all rectified within the first chapter and everything after that was just heart-bleedingly good. This is a novel I'd happily add to my bookshelves to re-read in the future.

SPOILER!!!
The one scene that particularly blew me away was when a teacher calls Kana's dad in for a talk about her frequency of mentioning her gay uncle. The dad is very firm with the teacher about the fact that he shouldn't be shaming Kana into being quiet about her dad but rather reprimanding students who might bully her because of it. That's what I want to see in more books and in society!

O segundo volume tem muitas qualidade que achei que faltaram no primeiro: o silêncio, as pausas, o tempo de desenvolvimento dos personagens...

Muito sensível e bonito esse segundo volume, adorei.

Necessary follow up

I had to buy this immediately after I finished Volume 1. Came for the satisfying conclusion, stayed for the beautiful art. WARNING: This book will make you hungry for Japanese food. Also it will probably make you cry with its kindness.

Such a gentle, loving, warm story.
