4.15⭐️ - this felt a small step above what I thought it'd end up as, as far as romance books go. I was attached to the characters but got real attached toward the end of the story arc. I appreciate that it felt like Alexis had growth through her experiences. I think it was good that the author was responsible with the warnings and resources at the end of the book.

Alexis and Daniel will live in my heart rent free. This book was beautifully written despite the heartache and despair that comes along with this genre/trope. I flew through this book. Really hard to put down! I'm glad this is a series so I can hopefully enjoy seeing what is in the future for them! Love that each chapter is a first person perspective of Alexis or Daniel. It's nice to get a full, well-rounded view of each situation. Life isn't 2D. Loved the messages given throughout this book. *Trigger warning* Seeing battered woman syndrome in my sister and watching it play out in this book was so true. So heartbreakingly frustrating. Highly recommend!

It was a bit of rocky start. I did not like the main couple as individuals, especially Daniel. I listened to the audiobook and Daniel’s narrator would take these deep breaths that  made him sound bored. It was very distracting. Daniel as a character annoyed me at first because he displayed one my ultimate pet peeves: constantly talking about how “someone like that” could never like you. It to me doesn’t consider them enough as individuals and doesn’t react to how they’ve actually acted towards you. 

After I got used to the male narrator and Daniel stood up, the story got really good. I think the discussions on DV were well done, Daniel and Alexis’ relationship was sweet, the spice was just enough, and the side characters did what they needed to do. All in all, I really enjoyed this.

This book was just magical. I loved every second. It tackles tough issues with grace and sensitivity, which is so rare. And it still remained cute and loving at the same time. 10 million stars.
