The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

It is a tale of adventures by the River and the Wild Willow of the quartet of friends - the simple-minded and loyal Mole, the passionate and pleasure seeking Rat, the wise and solitary Badger, and the impulsive and reckless Toad. The stories revolve around the homeliness of one's surroundings and the temptation of adventures that lie beyond the normal, daily lives. The caricatures of human behaviour, that are laid down in the form of characters and events in the story, are amusing and noticeable around us. It also has that soulful description of the beauty of nature around us and an underlying idealism which inspires. It thus becomes perfect for the children around and within you.

The tales of Mr. Toad, Badger, Mole and Rat are some of the most wholesome and enduring for those of any age. This book was one that I had never read as a child and regret that it was never put before me because I know that I would have loved it even more had I felt nostalgia for it.
