So hear me out. Please keep in mind I am sharing my view as a mixed race woman who is Indian/white.
To start, there is serious colorism and racism in the Indian community, and any mixed race relationship is seen as taboo or is fetishized. Acknowledging this reality is really important for writers.
With that being said, I felt that the author really pushed the idea that Preeti’s reasoning for breaking up with Daniel was valid and that he should forgive her because she “learned”.
Daniel had every right to be mad. He loved Preeti so much and the fact is that when someone breaks up with you because they succumb to the peer pressure of racism in their community, that hurts and the person who was broken up with has a right to be upset and angry and need time to process. She hurt him; let the man feel his emotions.
