definitely no Liya-Jay but I really shouldn't be comparing ahaha
Preeti was amazing, Daniel didn't really feel that real to me though
I did think it was a bit cringy, and as usual I predicted a lot of stuff but otherwise it wasn't bad at all
slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character

There’s more than enough plot to sustain this, so that Preeti not telling Daniel why she abruptly broke it off six years before is inexcusable delaying, even allowing for mental and physical discomfort.  He set reasonable expectations for it, to no avail. Lots of other backing and filling.  Enough.

I absolutely adored this second chance, interracial love story between East Indian American doctor Preeti and her first love Daniel, a successful Black man from a wealthy family. Cultural differences caused Preeti to run away from a chance at true love six years before but she never quite got over Daniel. Now the two are temporary roommates bringing up all the old feelings and making Preeti second guess whether the arranged marriage to a man her parents want her to marry will really make her happy.

The chemistry between Preeti and Daniel was on fire!! I loved how supportive and sensitive Daniel was as Preeti struggles with her anxiety and touch aversion. The author does such a great job dealing with some heavy issues including the stigma surrounding mental illness and racism among both cultural communities. One of my favorite parts was Preeti's girl gang and Daniel's extended family who welcomed Preeti wholeheartedly. The balance between positive and negative influences on their relationships was really relatable I thought.

Excellent on audio narrated by Soneela Nankani and highly recommend for fans of Sara Desai and Sonali Dev. This can be read as a standalone but I enjoyed the cameos from The trouble with hating you. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my advance review copy!

⚠️CW: mental illness, touch aversion, anxiety, racism, fetal death, slut shaming

Loved everything about this book and found myself cheering on Preeti and hoping for rekindled love! This is a book I'd love to see as a movie!

I actually enjoyed this one a little more than the first one, which was surprising as usually I’m not a super big fan of second chance romances.
This book follows Preeti and Daniel and their relationship as they deal with racism, anxiety, different cultures, and family. Although I personally haven't delt with many on the list mentioned above, I think Patel wrote them very well and realistic. Even with all of that the book had me laughing multiple times with the two of them having to share a one bedroom apartment. It was also nice to watch them interact and fall in love again or should I say grow their love.
Of course, we get the meddling Auntie type but it was kinda
needed for the plot. Another problem was communication between many characters. That does seem to happen in many contemporary romances. Lastly, I wish we could've seen more of their relationship in the past when they first started. I still liked them as a couple but just wish we would've gotten more.
Overall, an enjoyable second chance romance with loveable characters.
TW: Racism, mental health, and a stillbirth, touch add version

Sajni Patel does it again! I loved First Love, Take Two. It’s a great love story that also takes on racism and mental health stigma. I can’t wait for her next book and hope this isn’t the last of this series because I absolutely love the characters she has created.

Thanks Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the copy of the book for a honest review

”This is where you’re all wrong. We can’t let crap like this slide just because they’re older. Everyone has to evolve; they have to deal with their consequences.”

I had a great time reading this. A lot more angsty and serious than I expected, but given how The Trouble with Hating You was like, I should’ve known what was coming. The book spends a significant portion of its length exploring racism, family and community dynamics, and mental health within South Asian communities; it was handled carefully, and with the nuance and insight the topics deserve. But of course, what I’m ultimately here for is the romance and we…kinda have one?? I ADORE Preeti and Daniel’s relationship and they have the most lovely and intimate chemistry. I just wish we got to see more of them actually together as a couple. What we got was still great though! A solid 4 stars.
