This was fine; I didn't love the characters, but I didn't hate them. It seemed like a lot of the issues between Preeti and Daniel wouldn't have been as big of a deal as they made it, and I didn't really believe that they would've not talked for 6 years.
I did appreciate the confronting of racism against Black people in anothet BIPOC group (Desi/Indian)-- that felt real.
Overall, I felt this book was just fine, but not great. I dragged on enthusiasm about reading it after maybe a third because it felt like nothing was happening; time was passing without anytl progression of the story. 2.5 stars.

preeti is me i am preeti
wait edit cos i want to actually review
i don't think it's a 5 star read but i'm emotionally attached to the whole friendship group that i love it
preeti is literally me with the whole touch aversion med thing
again the cultural + racism topics were dealt with really well
i loved how this served as both a sequel but it's own story focussing on different characters
i just did not like the Constant Focus on this man's body

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Tropes: second chance & forced proximity.
The story follows Preeti and Daniel, ex lovers, who, after 6 years apart, end up sharing an apartment and are forced to confront their pasts, their breakup (and everything surrounding it) and their irrevocable connection to one another.
I can't really speak to Patel's navigation of race and interracial relationships, but I can speak to her treatment of mental health. This book provides one of the most accurate and heartbreaking portrayals of anxiety that I have ever read. As someone who shares many of the same triggers and fears as Preeti, reading her story felt both raw and powerful. Having Patel treat this with such care and compassion in her writing is incredible to see, and I mostly wanted to just thank her over and over again while I was reading. Daniel as a character is a dream, and the way he helped Preeti through her anxiety attacks was everything someone could hope for from a partner.
Overall, First Love, Take Two is a story that is full of tension and emotion. Patel crafts a plot and characters that are incredibly realistic which makes you invest fully in their love and growth- aka everything you want from a romance!! I loved her first book, I loved this one, and I can't wait to see what comes next!

It was pretty good, with a couple of cute moments. Just wasn’t quite as good as The Trouble with Hating You, likely because I feel like the author couldn’t delve into certain topics as deeply as I would have liked (probably because the main topics of The Trouble with Hating You were more familiar to the author). Some of the long speeches felt a little hollow. Overall though, it was a good and interesting read, just probably not something I’d keep coming back to reread.
Moderate: Racism
Minor: Miscarriage, Panic attacks/disorders, Medical content
Gosh I think my heart just burst at the seams. Daniel made my heart straight mush with his swoon worthy sweetness. Like my eyes probably look like heart eye emojis right now.
Daniel was so patient and kind and gentle with Preeti but also so sexy and sensual and their chemistry was off the charts. Preeti is an amazing intelligent bad ass physician, who has a heart of gold and puts everyone before herself. These two characters were just wonderful.
This author is incredible; the chemistry between these two I could just feel in my heart. The gripping anxiety that Preeti was struggling with I could feel to my core.
Not to mention, the girl gang in this book, are what bestie dreams are made of. They are amazing women.
The way the author handled mental health and the culture differences and racism in cultures was so gently and insightfully done.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
